Introduction
# 1) Similar to human development, businesses also experience developmental stages. Human development begins with conception, followed by birth or infancy, childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. Similarly, nonprofits, being a distinct type of business, face specific challenges related to governance, and how effective their programs are as their purpose is to benefit a community rather than a select few individuals. Various sources may present slightly different variations of these stages. For the purpose of this assessment, we will focus on the following stages: idea, start-up, growth, maturity, turnaround, and decline. Definitions of each identifier will be listed in each section. Choose the statement that best represents where you are for each of the four areas of capacity. It is expected that you will see some capacity areas as having aspects that fall into more than one stage. Just mark the place that seems closest to describing where your organization is at.
